Frequently asked questions
- What exactly does LicenseTrack do?
- It stores the licenses, employee registrations, and expiration dates you enter, shows everything coming due on one dashboard, and emails you at 90, 60, 30, and 7 days before each expiration. That's the whole product, on purpose.
- Does it tell me what my state requires?
- No — and that's deliberate. Licensing rules change, and the only trustworthy source is your licensing authority. LicenseTrack tracks what YOU enter and links every jurisdiction to its official board so you can verify requirements at the source. It is a reminder tool, not legal or compliance advice.
- Who is it for?
- Small electronic security and low-voltage contractors — one to fifteen people — holding licenses in multiple states or cities. If your renewal dates live in a spreadsheet and your inbox, you're who we built this for.
- How much does it cost?
- One plan: $49/month, everything included, unlimited licenses and employees. There's a 14-day free trial with a card required; cancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing.
- Why do you need a card for the trial?
- So the trial converts to a subscription without interruption if the product earns it — reminders that stop the day your trial lapses would defeat the point. Canceling during the trial is self-serve and takes two clicks.
- How do I cancel?
- Settings → Manage billing opens the Stripe customer portal. Cancel there anytime — no email, no phone call, no retention script. Your reminders stop at the end of the paid period.
- What happens to my data if I cancel?
- Export everything as CSV anytime, including after you cancel. We keep your data 90 days after cancellation in case you come back, then delete it. Email us sooner if you want it gone immediately.
- My city isn't in your jurisdiction list. Can I still use it?
- Yes. The picker covers the common state boards and city programs, and you can add any custom jurisdiction with its own name and board link in about ten seconds.
- Can it track my technicians' individual registrations?
- Yes — employee registrations attach to the license they hang on, each with its own number, expiration date, and CE hours (required vs. completed, as your board states them). Each one gets the same reminder schedule as a company license.
- Who gets the reminder emails?
- The account owner always does. You can add up to 10 more recipients in Settings — an office manager, a business partner — and each employee registration can carry the employee's own email, so techs get the reminders for their own card without seeing anyone else's.
- What if I renew early — do the reminders stop?
- Update the expiration date to the new one and the old reminders retire automatically. The sequence re-arms against the new date.
- Can the document vault be my only copy of a license?
- No — keep your originals. The vault exists so you can hand a GC or inspector a copy in one click, and it's backed up continuously off-site, but it is a convenience copy, not a records-retention service. If a document matters legally, keep the physical original and your own copy too. Also: upload license paperwork only — it's not a place for documents with Social Security numbers or other sensitive personal records.
- Is my data secure?
- Sign-in is by one-time email link (no passwords to steal or reuse). Data is encrypted in transit, access is strictly scoped to your account, and everything is continuously backed up to encrypted off-site storage. Nothing is ever sold or shared beyond the processors that run the service (see the Privacy page). Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card number.
- Can multiple people in my company log in?
- Not yet — one login per account today. Multi-user is planned. Most shops our size have one person who owns licensing; that's who this is for right now.
- Do you send text-message reminders?
- Not yet — email only at launch. If reminders start getting missed in inboxes, SMS is the first thing we'll add.
- Who's behind this?
- Bright Wire Solutions LLC — a licensed electronic security contractor, not a software conglomerate. The founder holds licenses in 10+ jurisdictions and built the tool he needed. Support is answered by a human who has personally filled out your state's renewal forms.
